Latin American academic leaders address higher education challenges

Academic leaders in Latin America are addressing the evolving challenges of higher education, focusing on regional integration, innovation, and social impact.

Carlos Alvarado Cerezo, Secretary General of the Central American University Council (CSUCA), participated in a forum organized by the Federation of University Teachers' Unions of South America (FESIDUAS) in Argentina. He emphasized the need for universities to respond to social, economic, and technological transformations. He highlighted the importance of the Fifth Plan for Regional Integration of Higher Education in Central America and the Dominican Republic (PIRESC V) to coordinate the efforts of 30 member universities.

In Argentina and Chile, Eugenio Martín De Palma, President of the Council of Rectors of Private Universities (CRUP), engaged in discussions regarding the future of higher education. In Córdoba, Argentina, he participated in the Social Week 2026, which addressed topics such as the common good, artificial intelligence, and digital power. Additionally, the REALCUP regional meeting was held in La Serena, Chile, bringing together authorities from Chile, Argentina, Cuba, Peru, Mexico, and Ecuador to discuss quality and innovation in distance learning.
