Latin American legislators convene in Dominican Republic to combat antisemitism

Legislators from across Latin America gathered in Santo Domingo for the VI Latin American Forum against Antisemitism, organized by the Combat Antisemitism Movement. The forum brought together over 70 leaders from 19 countries to discuss legislative tools to combat discrimination and hate speech.

Venezuelan Deputy Nora Bracho addressed the assembly, equating the fight against antisemitism with the struggle against political persecution in Venezuela. She stated that the country has experienced hate as a “policy of state,” contributing to the exile of nearly eight million people. Bracho expressed intent to promote a Parliamentary Friendship Group with Israel to restore diplomatic relations.

Argentine deputies Juliana Santillán and José Glinski also participated, advocating for a unified agenda that transcends partisan lines. Santillán proposed incorporating the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism into Argentine law to address modern manifestations of hate, such as those found on social media. Glinski emphasized that combating antisemitism is a shared responsibility linked to the broader defense of human rights.
