Latin American forum on combating antisemitism

Overview

During the Sixth Latin American Forum Against Antisemitism in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic formally adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism. President Luis Abinader announced the decision, which makes the nation the seventh Latin American country to endorse the framework. To honor the country’s history of providing asylum to Jewish refugees, the government pledged RD$50 million for a new Jewish Museum of Sosúa.

The forum, organized by the Combat Antisemitism Movement, convened over 70 leaders from 19 countries to discuss legislative tools against hate speech and discrimination. Participants included Venezuelan Deputy Nora Bracho, who linked the fight against antisemitism to the struggle against political persecution in her country, and Argentine deputies Juliana Santillán and José Glinski. Santillán advocated for incorporating the IHRA definition into Argentine law to address modern manifestations of hate on social media.
