Latin American oil production rises 10% in April 2026

Oil production in Latin America and the Caribbean grew by 10% year-on-year in April 2026, reaching 318 million barrels. Brazil, Mexico, and Venezuela were the primary drivers, collectively accounting for approximately 70% of the regional total.

Natural gas production also saw an increase of 8.5%, totaling 21.7 billion cubic meters. This growth supports regional energy security, as over 70% of the gas produced in the area is consumed domestically. The top gas producers include Argentina and Trinidad and Tobago (22% each), followed by Brazil (14%), Bolivia (12%), and Mexico (10%).

Despite strong production, the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) noted that regional trade integration remains uneven. While the region covers 54% of its oil import value through local markets, 79% of exportable production is sent to global markets. Furthermore, 65% of imported natural gas still originates from outside the region, highlighting a need for improved cross-border infrastructure and trade agreements.
