Latin American theater companies celebrate milestones with new productions

Several Latin American theater companies are marking significant milestones with new productions. The company Hijos del Ocio is celebrating its anniversary with a 30-performance season at Casa del Valle. Directed and written by Rubén Darío López, the season features four works: ‘Tres días’, ‘Matilde’, ‘Torta Genovesa’, and ‘La Oficina, hacemos un buen trabajo’. The production utilizes non-conventional spaces to create an immersive experience where the audience interacts closely with the actors and the environment.

In the Dominican Republic, Teatro Guloya is celebrating 35 years of independent theater. To mark the occasion, the company is premiering ‘Bendito Gordo’, a dark satirical comedy directed by Claudio Rivera. The production features a multi-generational cast, including Dominican cinema icon Gerardo ‘el Cuervo’ Mercedes, Luinis Olaverría, and Viena González. The play is scheduled to begin performances on September 4 at the Otto Coro hall in the Colonial City.
