Latin American universities announce new academic cooperation agreements

Leading Latin American universities are strengthening regional academic ties through new collaborative initiatives. During the Rectors' Summit in Santiago, Chile, representatives from Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), Universidad de los Andes (Colombia), and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile announced the creation of a joint undergraduate program and a collaborative funding fund to support interdisciplinary research.

The summit focused on addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence in academic training, ethics, governance, and the labor market, as well as the strengthening of state capacities.

Separately, Jenniffer Peralta M., rector of the Universidad de Tarapacá (Chile), emphasized the importance of long-term strategic planning for regional development. She highlighted the university's role in addressing specific needs in northern Chile, such as water security, productive diversification, and health, while advancing scientific research through projects like a new supercomputing center.
