Latvia anticipates 10-15% increase in heating costs

Latvia's Ministry of Economics and Energy anticipates that heating costs could increase by 10 to 15 percent during a mild or moderate winter. While residents express growing concern over energy bills, authorities note that price hikes will not be uniform across the country, as they depend on local heat production methods and when suppliers secured their reserves.

Although natural gas prices are currently approximately twice as high as they were at the start of the year, many operators purchased fuel in advance at more favorable rates. National energy storage levels remain comparable to the same period last year. The Inčukalns underground storage facility holds 1.8 terawatt-hours of natural gas, which the Prime Minister stated is sufficient to meet the country's consumption needs for approximately two to three months. Additionally, the wood pellet market has stabilized following a summer peak, though prices remain above initial levels.
