Latvia assesses military threat levels amid hybrid risks

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs has stated that the current military threat level and assessment for the country remain unchanged. While the risk of a direct Russian invasion is currently considered low, officials warn of ongoing threats from sabotage, cyberattacks, and hybrid operations, which are regularly encountered by Latvia and other NATO and EU member states.

In a related development, reports indicate that US CIA Director John Ratcliffe warned Russian officials in Moscow against escalating conflicts with NATO, specifically targeting the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Ratcliffe also reportedly sought to persuade Moscow to reduce military and economic support to Iran.

Additionally, Latvia's Ministry of Climate and Energy has proposed a cabinet order to declare an emergency situation in the health, energy, and water management sectors along the eastern border until December 1. This proposal is based on threats of Russian military escalation and the increasing frequency of unidentified drones and objects detected in Latvian airspace or near the border.
