Latvia Braces for Cooler Temperatures and Rain as Cold Front Moves In

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC) warns that a cold front will sweep across the Baltic region this weekend, ending a spell of unusually warm, summer‑like weather. Temperatures that reached near +26 °C earlier in the week are expected to fall sharply, with daytime highs dropping to the mid‑teens (+14 °C to +20 °C) by early next week.

Rainfall will become widespread over the weekend, with showers and occasional thunderstorms forecast for many areas. Wind gusts are anticipated to reach 15–18 m s⁻¹, especially in the southern and southeastern parts of the country. Sunday may bring a brief respite of clearer skies and slightly higher temperatures (+19 °C to +24 °C), but another cyclone is projected to arrive early next week, bringing prolonged rain and stronger winds.

Authorities advise residents to monitor updates, avoid rapid temperature changes that could affect health, and be prepared for possible localized flooding in low‑lying zones.
