Latvia heating tariffs to change in Bauska and Riga

Heating tariffs in Latvia are facing changes due to fluctuating energy resource costs. In the Bauska region, SIA ‘Bauskas novada komunālserviss’ (BNKS) will increase its thermal energy tariff by 8.8% starting October 1. The new rate will be 89.73 EUR per megawatt-hour (MWh) excluding VAT, up from the current 82.49 EUR per MWh. This adjustment, approved by the Public Utilities Commission (SPRK), is attributed to changes in fuel prices and unforeseen revenue calculations for 2025.

In Riga, the situation is more complex. While the tariff for AS ‘Rīgas siltums’ is set to decrease slightly to 80.96 EUR per MWh starting October 1, officials warn of a potential surge in December. Due to rising costs of natural gas and biomass, heating prices in the capital could increase by 20% to 30%. The Public Utilities Commission is still evaluating the project, and the exact December rate remains unconfirmed as the regulator awaits final fuel cost data.
