Latvia issues orange heat warning as temperatures may reach 35 °C
The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre has issued an orange‑level heat warning for the period from Saturday afternoon through Monday. Forecasts call for strong heat on Saturday with temperatures of +27 °C to +30 °C across much of the country, and very strong heat on Sunday and Monday with temperatures rising to +31 °C – +35 °C.
Authorities advise the public to increase fluid intake, keep premises ventilated, avoid prolonged direct sunlight, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and use light, breathable clothing. Special caution is urged for older adults, infants, people with chronic illnesses and pets. Rapid temperature changes can trigger cardiovascular and respiratory problems and, in extreme cases, sudden death.
