Latvia issues severe thunderstorm and heat warning for June 21

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, together with the State Fire and Rescue Service, released a warning on Sunday morning for possible thunderstorm activity and strong heat in parts of the country.

Thunderstorms with heavy rain, strong gusts up to 20 m s⁻¹ and local hail are expected in Latvia’s west during the early morning and mid‑day, with storm clouds moving eastward later in the day. A separate heat warning covers Riga, where temperatures are forecast to rise to 27 °C–29 °C between 13:00 and 18:00. The thunderstorm alert is in force from 07:10 to 21:00, while the heat alert runs from 13:00 to 18:00. Winds will be light overall but may become gusty during the storm, and hail could occur locally.
