Latvia to provide aid and 100,000 euros to Nepal flood victims

Latvia is preparing to provide humanitarian and financial assistance to Nepal following devastating floods and landslides caused by a glacial lake outburst. The Latvian government is considering a 100,000 euro contribution to the Prime Minister of Nepal’s disaster relief fund.

In addition to financial aid, Latvia plans to send mobile freezers to assist in the preservation of remains, as well as DNA testing kits and materials to aid identification efforts. A representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Consular Department has arrived in Nepal to coordinate with local authorities and support Latvian citizens.

Currently, 33 Latvian nationals are listed as missing according to the Nepal Tourism Department. Rescue and identification efforts are ongoing in collaboration with EU consular representations. Authorities have also warned citizens to be vigilant against scammers attempting to exploit the families of the missing for financial gain.
