Latvian youth basketball teams win U18 European match and U16 Baltic Cup

The Latvian U‑18 women’s team opened the European Championship in Stockholm with a 72‑64 victory over Croatia, advancing to the quarter‑finals and will face Serbia and Poland in the next rounds.

In the Baltic Cup, the Latvian U‑16 boys’ squad defeated Lithuania 80‑71 in Riga, following an earlier 95‑86 win over Estonia. Standout player Bendžanis Jānis Beruē scored 39 points with 21 rebounds in the Estonia game.

Separately, Jelgava will host the “King Of The Court 1‑vs‑1” basketball tournament on 29 August, featuring three age groups (born 2014‑2016) and organized by the Basketbola Akadēmija ALLEY‑OOP. The event aims to promote fair play and popularise basketball among youth.
