Latvia warns of Russian unpredictability amid regional security concerns
Latvian official Andris Kulbergs has addressed concerns regarding regional security and the unpredictable nature of Russia. Following reports of an unannounced visit to Moscow by the CIA Director via Riga, Kulbergs noted that Latvia serves as a strategic partner to the United States and provides infrastructure as an optimal travel route.
Regarding potential Russian aggression against Baltic states, Kulbergs stated there is currently no concrete evidence of a planned military invasion, a sentiment echoed following discussions with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. However, he warned that the changing geopolitical landscape necessitates constant readiness for hybrid or cyberattacks.
Kulbergs suggested that Russia's lack of military progress and internal issues, such as fuel shortages and domestic instability, contribute to its unpredictability. He emphasized that Latvia is investing heavily in defense and security to prepare for the worst-case scenarios while supporting U.S. efforts to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.
