Latvia weather warning: Strong winds and potential power outages expected
A strong cyclone is expected to bring severe weather to Latvia on Friday, October 9. Forecasters predict intense wind gusts, particularly along the western coast of Kurzeme, where speeds could reach between 24 and 29 meters per second.
In response to the storm, the electricity distribution company Sadales tīkls has entered a state of heightened operational readiness. The company warned that strong winds could cause trees or branches to fall on power lines, potentially leading to electricity outages. Hundreds of electricians across the country are prepared to work, including during the night, to repair any damage.
Residents are advised to prioritize personal safety by staying away from power lines and electrical infrastructure, especially if trees or broken wires are visible. Citizens are also encouraged to ensure mobile phones, laptops, and other essential devices are fully charged in anticipation of possible power disruptions.
