Latvia's Emergency Medical Service reports heat‑related calls across all ages
Latvia's emergency medical service (NMPD) said that the recent heat wave prompted calls for assistance from people of all ages. Most incidents involved heat exhaustion or dehydration rather than life‑threatening conditions. Children often experienced symptoms after spending long periods outdoors near water bodies, while adults and seniors were affected by prolonged exposure during work or leisure, insufficient fluid intake, and inadequate clothing.
The agency warned that anyone who does not drink enough water, wears heavy clothing, or remains in direct sunlight for extended periods is at risk. It urged the public to stay hydrated, seek shade during peak sun hours, wear appropriate headgear, and check on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly living alone, infants, and those with chronic respiratory or heart conditions. Forecasts indicate the heat will gradually ease, with rain expected later in the week.
