Latvia's Jaunā vienība eyes new coalition after election results

Following the 15th Saeima elections in Latvia, the political party Jaunā vienība (JV) has expressed readiness to participate in either a new governing coalition or the opposition. Former Prime Minister Evika Siliņa suggested that JV might have achieved a better electoral result if the party had not joined the previous government coalition led by Andra Kulberga.

In provisional election results, Apvienotais saraksts (AS) emerged as the winner with 35.3% of the vote. Other significant results include Latvijas pirmajā vietā (LPV) with 13.1%, followed by Suverēnā vara/Apvienība jaunlatvieši (SV/AJ) at 11.71%, Nacionālā apvienība (NA) at 8.9%, Progresīvie at 7.88%, and JV at 6.36%. The Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) failed to cross the 5% threshold, receiving 4.4%.

JV representatives, including Siliņa and faction leader Edmunds Jurēvics, met with President Edgars Rinkēvičs to discuss their vision for the new Saeima. JV identifies AS, NA, and Progresīvie as potential coalition partners. The party’s core priorities include maintaining Latvia’s Euro-Atlantic orientation, supporting NATO, and increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP, alongside economic growth and bureaucracy reduction.
