Latvia's State Fire and Rescue Service Handles 41 Calls in One Day
During the 24‑hour period from 22 July 06:30 to 23 July 06:30, Latvia's State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received 41 emergency calls. Eleven were for fire fighting, nineteen for rescue operations and eleven turned out to be false alarms.
Key incidents included a gas‑pipe fire in a container in Daugmales parish, a person rescued from a nine‑metre‑high tree in Saulkrasti, two missing people guided out of a forest in Zvārde parish, a fatal drowning near Saldus, and a rescue of a person trapped in a mud‑filled tractor pit in Kazdanga. Additional calls involved vehicle fires, a fire in a garden house and other minor incidents.
The service also reported 127 road traffic accidents in the same period, resulting in 19 injuries, and processed 429 administrative traffic violations, including 165 speed‑limit breaches.
