Laura Owens sentenced for fake pregnancy scheme targeting 'The Bachelor' star

Laura Owens, 36, has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and seven years of supervised probation following her guilty plea to four felony charges in Maricopa County, Arizona. The charges included perjury, identity theft, and two counts of fraudulent schemes and artifices.

Investigators determined that between May 2023 and June 2024, Owens manipulated multiple men by faking twin pregnancies and fabricating medical records. This included altering ultrasound photos and faking pregnancy videos. One of her primary targets was former 'The Bachelor' star Clayton Echard, whom she had accused in a 2023 paternity suit of fathering her twins.

During the sentencing, Echard expressed frustration with the judicial outcome, stating that the system had failed him. The presiding judge, Jeffrey Rueter, noted the difficulty in determining whether Owens' actions were the result of calculated manipulation or mental health issues. While Owens received a deferred jail sentence, any violation of her probation could result in up to 12 or 15 years in prison.
