Lavalleja Department hosts 53rd Semana de Lavalleja festival

The 53rd Semana de Lavalleja is currently underway in Uruguay, featuring a diverse program of musical performances, sports, and traditional activities. Despite recent rainy weather and cool temperatures, musical shows at Parque Rodó have continued, including performances by bands such as Buitres, Pie Grande, and La Triple Nelson. Due to health issues affecting the lead singer of the band Turf, organizers substituted their slot with La Nueva Escuela and Soy tu Sol.

Lavalleja Intendant Daniel Ximénez highlighted that the festival includes 15 different stages distributed across the department to promote decentralization, reaching towns without municipal offices. Ximénez noted that 70% of the local artists featured in the program are from the department. While the festivities offer free access to high-level artistic proposals, the Intendancy has faced economic challenges regarding the financing of the event.
