Lavrov and Saudi Foreign Minister hold high-level talks in Moscow
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud met in Moscow to discuss bilateral relations and regional security issues. The ministers highlighted the importance of continued cooperation within OPEC+ and noted that trade between the two nations grew by 40 percent last year.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Lavrov stated that Russia remains ready for negotiations, but emphasized that any settlement must address the root causes of the crisis, which he attributed to actions by the West, including the EU and NATO. He criticized the European Union for allegedly obstructing long-term solutions.
On Middle Eastern stability, Lavrov expressed concern over the potential for Arab Peninsula nations to be drawn into military conflicts between the US, Israel, and Iran. He also noted a lack of progress in Gaza despite previous diplomatic efforts and called for a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue to ensure lasting peace for all parties in the region.
