Law enforcement officers killed in separate shootings in Honduras and Peru

Two separate fatal shooting incidents involving law enforcement personnel have been reported in Honduras and Peru.

In Olanchito, Honduras, 25-year-old Brayan Samuel Pérez Villafranca, an active member of the Military Public Order Police (PMOP), died after being shot in the Buenos Aires neighborhood. While official circumstances remain unclear, family members claim Pérez Villafranca was followed and intercepted by individuals who attempted to search him, leading to a struggle and gunfire. He was pronounced dead at the Aníbal Murillo Escobar Hospital.

In Trujillo, Peru, 21-year-old police officer Diego Manuel Vela Rodríguez died from multiple gunshot wounds. Vela Rodríguez, who served in the Trujillo Emergency Unit, was found with severe injuries, including cranial trauma, near the Mercado de Papas. Preliminary reports suggest he may have been attacked inside his residence and subsequently thrown from an upper floor. Criminal investigators are working to identify the perpetrators and establish a motive.
