Law enforcement updates address Taser use and surveillance in Italy and Switzerland
In Italy, the Misericordia di Campi Bisenzio is hosting a conference at the Arena Estiva al Palagio to discuss the operational profiles and legal responsibilities regarding the use of Tasers. The event features speakers from the Siulp union, including national general secretary Felice Romano and regional secretary Francesco Reale, alongside Armando Albano, author of the manual ‘Il Taser’. As part of the event, 100 copies of the publication will be donated to police forces serving the Florence Questura.
In Switzerland, the Federal Council has initiated a consultation process to enhance public safety in public transport. Proposed legislative adjustments aim to provide a legal basis for transport police to use Tasers and to regulate the use of bodycams. The plan also includes provisions for real-time video surveillance on vehicles under specific conditions, such as when data protection assessments show a predominant interest or when a passenger requests help. These measures, which may include the use of artificial intelligence for analyzing recordings, are initially proposed for a five-year trial period.
