LAWMA initiates waste clearance in Ayobo-Ipaja
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has launched a special intervention to clear accumulated waste along the Ayobo-Ipaja axis, specifically targeting the Megida area and its surroundings. The operation follows reports of indiscriminate dumping on road medians.
LAWMA Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin stated that the agency has deployed both operational teams to clear the waste and enforcement personnel to address the causes of the recurring accumulation. Investigations revealed that illegal trading activities, including markets operating on road medians, and residents failing to use assigned Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators have contributed to the issue.
During the intervention, LAWMA officials apprehended two tricycles used for the illegal transport of waste to road medians. The authority emphasized that it will continue to enforce regulations to prevent redumping and ensure residents utilize approved waste collection channels.
