Lawrence Mudzingayima faces investigation after viral restaurant altercation
Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzingayima is facing legal and professional scrutiny following a viral video showing him making violent threats against women at Vlamo, a high-end restaurant in Sandton, South Africa.
In the footage, Mudzingayima allegedly threatened to murder the women after his advances were rejected, boasting that his wealth and status would allow him to commit such acts without consequence. In response to the incident, the restaurant owner has opened an intimidation case against him. Mudzingayima has since issued a public apology, stating his language was “unacceptable and unjustifiable” and expressing regret for the distress caused.
The controversy has extended into the political and regulatory sphere. South African Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has ordered the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) to investigate whether Mudzingayima’s company, Moriel Infrastructure Group, legally secured its government contracts. Specifically, the Department of Transport and the Department of Public Works are reviewing a R107 million SANRAL tender awarded to the firm.
