Lawyer assaulted by Houthi militia members in Sanaa office

Lawyer Mustafa Mujahid Qasim Al-Othmani was reportedly assaulted and insulted by Houthi militia security personnel inside the Attorney General’s office in Sanaa. The incident occurred while Al-Othmani was attempting to follow up on a legal complaint regarding a detained client, Sadiq Abdo Awad.

The Yemeni Bar Association and the ‘Lawyers Against Corruption’ network have condemned the incident, stating that Al-Othmani was physically attacked and prevented from meeting the Attorney General despite presenting his professional license. Reports indicate the assault took place in the presence of witnesses and the Attorney General himself.

The Yemeni Bar Association has held the Houthi-appointed Attorney General responsible for the incident and is demanding an urgent, transparent investigation to hold those involved accountable. Legal advocates emphasized that such actions undermine the independence of the legal profession and the rule of law.
