Mexico honors lawyers on Day of the Attorney, stressing institutional confidence

Across several Mexican states, officials marked the Day of the Lawyer with ceremonies that highlighted the profession’s role in defending citizens’ rights and strengthening public institutions. In Toluca, State of Mexico deputy José Francisco Vázquez Rodríguez praised lawyers for translating the rule of law into tangible benefits and urged continuous legal training and adaptation to new technologies. The state’s secretary general Horacio Duarte Olivares and judicial president Héctor Macedo García pledged support for ethical, solid advocacy.

In Morelos, the State Bar, led by Adela Manzanares, signed a strategic alliance with the state government to improve access to justice and reinforce the rule of law, with Secretary of Government Edgar Maldonado Ceballos promising ongoing dialogue. Aguascalientes’ Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes (UAA) recognized distinguished jurists, emphasizing ethical values, the impact of AI, and reforms to the justice system. The university rector Juan Carlos Arredondo Hernández also underscored lawyers’ broader societal contributions beyond courts.

Nationally, the Confederación de Colegios y Asociaciones de Abogados de México (Concaam) honored 50 attorneys, including former Baja California prosecutor Guillermo Ruiz Hernández, who warned of property‑rights challenges and reiterated the profession’s duty to protect people’s lives and assets. These events collectively portray a concerted effort to celebrate and reinforce the legal profession’s importance in Mexican society.
