Nuevo Laredo expands services and infrastructure

Entities: Nuevo Laredo · Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo · State of Mexico · National Urban Public Safety Survey (ENSU) · Spain

Overview

Since late May 2026 Nuevo Laredo’s municipal government has accelerated public‑service delivery. A municipal‑funded, two‑storey primary school in El Progreso opened on 20 July, offering 12 climate‑controlled classrooms for 456 students and integrating into the state education system with support from Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya. The same day the city became the first municipality in Tamaulipas to publish its Voluntary Local Sustainable Development Report on the UN platform, highlighting progress on Agenda 2030 goals in water, health, economic development and governance. Social‑support schemes such as “Presidencia Cerquita de Ti,” the “Hogar Propio” housing plan, low‑cost water‑fee options and the new driver‑license centre have broadened assistance. The “Pinta tu Fachada” housing‑facelift program expanded to 316 families, signing a fourth agreement with Fundación Corazón Urbano and providing 1,600‑1,700 pesos per household for façade rehabilitation, aiming to improve the city’s image and foster community pride. Infrastructure projects include the 88.8‑million‑peso elevated bridge (Paso Vehicular) in the Paseo Colón‑Colosio corridor, slated for completion by December 2026, and the renovation of Aeropuerto Boulevard. The Museum of Science, Technology and Planetarium entered final preparation, and 100 tinacos were installed for vulnerable households. Free legal, health, tax and animal‑welfare services continued in neighborhoods such as Las Torres and La Niña, while entrepreneurship training and free boxing classes expanded cultural outreach. The municipality issued over 6,000 passports in H1 2026 and kept health clinics, citizen‑service desks and tax‑discount windows open throughout the summer vacation period, ensuring uninterrupted assistance to residents. A second‑quarter ENSU survey released at the end of July showed marked improvements in residents’ perception of municipal services: reported problems with potholes, street‑lights, parks, water supply, drainage and wastewater treatment all fell sharply.
