Lawyers threaten defamation suits against Al Sharpton and Sunny Hostin
Attorneys representing three friends of the late 18-year-old Nolan Wells are threatening defamation lawsuits against civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton, attorney Ben Crump, and ‘The View’ co-host Sunny Hostin. The legal action follows a grand jury's decision not to bring criminal charges in Wells' death.
The lawyers for Warren Hudson, Jax Pitalo, and Morgan Seymour claim that Sharpton, Crump, and Hostin made public statements falsely suggesting the men were involved in the death, mishandled Wells' phone, or interfered with the investigation. The attorneys have issued pre-suit demands for retractions and apologies.
In response, Al Sharpton stated he welcomes a lawsuit, suggesting that litigation could compel those present during Wells' final moments to provide testimony under oath. Sunny Hostin is also facing scrutiny following comments regarding her children's experiences in private schools, which came shortly after the threats of litigation regarding her previous comments on the Wells case.
