Italian regions seal GP agreements to launch Community Health Centers

Regional authorities in Lazio, Umbria and other Italian regions have signed integrative agreements with general practitioners to staff newly created Community Health Centers (Case di Comunità). The agreements aim to embed GPs in these centres, enhance territorial health services, reduce emergency department pressure and fulfil reforms introduced by the 2022 decree on territorial care. Lazio’s regional council highlighted that at least one doctor will be present in every centre, while the Senate’s health commission praised the recent agreements as a successful use of existing contractual tools. In Veneto, activists warn that limited GP availability and the voluntary 10‑hour weekly commitment risk undermining the reform, calling for broader staffing, including specialists and community nurses. A separate forum in Tuscany brought together regional officials, municipal leaders and health operators to discuss the integration of health and social services and to present the IFEL‑Federsanità 2026 report on municipal socio‑health needs.
