Lazio opens new emergency department and community health hub funded by PNRR

On 6 July 2026 the regional president Francesco Rocca inaugurated a new 20‑bed sub‑intensive care unit at the Sandro Pertini Hospital in Rome. The 560‑square‑metre emergency medicine ward, part of the hospital’s anti‑seismic upgrades, was financed by the EU‑backed National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and includes modern monitoring and ventilation equipment.

The next day, Rocca participated in the opening of a Casa della Comunità and a community hospital in Montefiascone, Viterbo. The centre, also PNRR‑funded with about €4 million, serves roughly 46 000 residents and consolidates medical, social and preventive services under one roof. The new community hospital adds 20 low‑intensity beds and introduces telemedicine pathways for chronic conditions such as heart failure, COPD and oral anticoagulation, aiming to improve continuity of care and reduce unnecessary admissions.
