Lazio reports rise in workplace accidents among young workers

Data analyzed by the CGIL union from INAIL records indicates a significant rise in workplace accidents among young workers aged 16 to 34 in the Lazio region during the first half of 2026. The incidence of accidents involving this demographic has risen to 28 percent of the regional total, up from 22.8 percent in 2020. Notably, workplace fatalities among those under 35 have doubled, with eight deaths reported compared to four in the same period of 2025.

The increase is observed across all age brackets within this group, with the highest growth rate of 12.9 percent seen in the 16-19 age group. Geographically, Rome recorded the highest absolute number of accidents, while the province of Latina saw the highest incidence rate, with under-35s accounting for 29.8 percent of its total accidents.

Key sectors affected include healthcare and social assistance (14.2 percent), commerce (11.3 percent), transport and warehousing (11.2 percent), and accommodation and catering (10.5 percent). The CGIL has characterized the situation as an emergency, calling on institutions and businesses to address precarious employment models and improve safety training for new workers.
