Lazzaroni depot fire in Colledara, Italy prompts environmental checks and traffic disruption

A fire broke out in the early hours of 3 July 2026 at the Lazzaroni depot in Piane Vomano, part of the municipality of Colledara in the Teramo province of Italy. The blaze affected roughly 4,000 m² of a 15,000 m² warehouse, and thick smoke drifted onto the A24 Teramo‑Rome highway, causing traffic slowdowns.

Local fire crews from Teramo and Nereto responded with fire engines, specialist water pumps, drones equipped with thermal cameras and remotely‑controlled tracked vehicles. The municipal authority activated a COC and imposed a one‑kilometre safety perimeter around the site.

ARPA Abruzzo conducted immediate air‑quality monitoring using portable photo‑ionisation detectors and multigas equipment. The first measurements did not reveal any hazardous pollutant levels, and no direct environmental emergency was reported. Ongoing monitoring will continue to assess any residual effects.
