Lübeck police investigate assault on referee and player

Police in Lübeck are investigating an incident of violence following a Landesliga Holstein football match between Türkischer SV and FC Dornbreite on Wednesday evening.

According to authorities, the atmosphere during the match was already tense. After the final whistle, several spectators entered the pitch. During the ensuing confrontation, a 27-year-old referee was reportedly pushed and spat upon by a spectator, and a 22-year-old player was kicked.

Officers identified a 56-year-old suspect from Lübeck at the scene. The 2nd Police Station of Lübeck is conducting investigations into bodily harm and is currently reviewing video footage to assist in the case. Police are calling for witnesses who observed the events at the Waisenallee sports ground on August 19, 2026, to come forward.
