German Police Officer Fires at Driver During Highway Pursuit on A9/A6
A police pursuit began on the A9 near Greding in the Roth district of Bavaria after officers attempted to stop a vehicle with foreign plates. The driver evaded the checkpoint, weaving in a zig‑zag pattern and continuing onto the A6, crossing into Baden‑Württemberg.
During a final attempt to stop the car at an interchange near Schnelldorf, the driver accelerated toward a police officer. The officer fired a shot, stating it was in self‑defence, and struck the vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested without injury. Police from both Bavaria and Baden‑Württemberg participated in the operation.
The incident was reported by the police spokesperson in Aalen, who noted suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. No officers or by‑standers were harmed.
