Star Trek celebrates 60 years of cultural impact and new collaborations

The Star Trek franchise is celebrating its 60th anniversary, marking six decades since the debut of 'The Original Series' on September 8, 1966. The franchise has grown into a massive cultural phenomenon, accumulating an estimated 75 billion hours of viewership across various media, including television, film, and streaming.

To commemorate the milestone, Le Creuset has partnered with Paramount to launch a limited-edition kitchenware collection. The range includes items inspired by the USS Enterprise, Klingons, and Spock, such as cast iron cocottes, a Galileo Shuttlecraft baking dish, and a Spock-themed mug with Vulcan-style handles. As part of the promotion, Le Creuset sent an Enterprise cocotte to the stratosphere via high-altitude balloon.

The anniversary also highlights the franchise's social legacy. Created by Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek was noted for its inclusive vision during the Civil Rights Movement, featuring a diverse crew of officers working as equals. This legacy continues through characters and actors like Nichelle Nichols, who played Lieutenant Uhura and later worked with NASA to promote diversity in space exploration.
