Leah Stewart shares recovery update after Sydney shark attack

Leah Stewart, a Sydney teacher who survived a shark attack at Coogee Beach in June, has provided an update on her recovery. The attack, suspected to be by a 3.5-meter great white shark, resulted in life-threatening injuries, a medically induced coma, and the amputation of one arm.

Stewart expressed gratitude for her progress, stating she has regained a degree of independence and feels she has been given a ‘second chance at life’. She described the shark as a ‘monster’ and noted that the thought of her young daughter helped her fight for survival during the ordeal.

A GoFundMe campaign launched by her brother, Joshua Stewart, has successfully raised over A$550,000. The fundraiser has been closed as the funds are deemed sufficient to cover her ongoing medical treatment, rehabilitation, and prosthetics, as well as supporting her family during her recovery.
