Federal District candidates campaign amid corruption allegations and social proposals
Candidates for the Government of the Federal District (GDF) are intensifying their 2026 election campaigns, focusing on security, social services, and transparency. Several candidates have proposed measures to combat violence against women, following reports of 11 feminicides in the region during the first half of 2026.
Political tensions have escalated as seven candidates, including José Roberto Arruda, Leandro Grass, and Ricardo Cappelli, filed a formal request with the Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT). They are seeking an investigation into alleged monthly payments of R$ 100,000 made by a government contractor to a company controlled by the husband and daughter of incumbent Governor Celina Leão. The group described the move as a supra-partisan effort to ensure transparency.
Additionally, candidate Leandro Grass has publicly criticized the credibility of the BRB (Banco de Brasília), demanding greater transparency regarding the institution's debt and capitalization amid ongoing investigations.
