Learjet 60 crash in Florida kills nine people
A Learjet 60 private jet crashed into a residential area near Cresthaven in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, killing all nine people on board. The aircraft, which was traveling from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas, struck the ground near a mobile home park at high speed, causing a massive fireball and a large crater.
The victims have been identified as tech entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, their children Emma (4) and Charlie (2), family nanny Anita Maria Cetina, Rachael Reed, Charmi Fehr, Captain Jeffrey Gregory (55), and co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras (20).
Air traffic control recordings reveal the crew reported moderate turbulence and icing issues shortly before the descent. Some reports indicate the aircraft may have begun breaking apart in mid-air. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. The impact forced the evacuation of approximately 400 to 600 residents from the nearby mobile home community.
