Least Developed Countries group meets in Dili to set COP31 priorities

The Least Developed Countries (LDC) group, comprising 44 states, has commenced discussions in Dili, Timor-Leste, to establish priorities for the upcoming COP31 summit in Antalya, Turkey.

Ambassador Adão Barbosa, Timor-Leste’s Special Envoy for Climate Change and president of the LDC group, stated that the three-day meeting aims to reach a common position among member states. Key topics of discussion include increasing climate finance from developed nations, climate change adaptation, and addressing critical areas related to losses and damages caused by climate change.

The group also intends to discuss the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, an area where clear decisions have been lacking in recent years. A ministerial meeting is scheduled for Thursday to adopt a declaration outlining the group’s key messages and priority areas for the negotiations in Turkey.
