Israel strikes southern Lebanon following Hezbollah drone attack

Israeli military operations intensified in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, primarily targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in the Nabatieh governorate. The escalation followed an incident where Hezbollah allegedly launched two explosive drones toward Israeli soldiers stationed near the Ali al-Taher Ridge. The Israeli military reported that it intercepted one of the drones and suffered no casualties.

In response, Israeli airstrikes and artillery bombardments struck various locations, including Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Arab Salim, and the Ali al-Taher area. Lebanese state media reported that one person was killed and another wounded in Nabatieh due to an Israeli drone strike. Reports from the Lebanese National News Agency also indicated that Israeli artillery used phosphorus munitions during bombardments in the region.

Despite a US-brokered ceasefire framework established in June, cross-border hostilities persist. Lebanese officials noted that since March 2, the death toll from the conflict has exceeded 4,300 people. Meanwhile, Lebanese army officers have expressed concerns to US officials regarding a potential Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, fearing that such a move would allow Hezbollah to re-establish its presence in vacated territories.
