Lebanese army units come under Israeli fire during southern deployment

The Lebanese army reported that its troops were hit by Israeli fire while carrying out a deployment in the town of Zawtar al‑Gharbiyah‑al‑Nabatiyah in southern Lebanon. A statement posted on X said the Israeli forces opened fire near the Lebanese units, saying the attack could hinder the implementation of the "experimental zones" deployment agreed in a framework signed on 26 June.

The Israeli army later said it had fired warning shots into the air after spotting a Lebanese force and heavy vehicles moving about 150 metres into a buffer zone controlled by Israel, which it said violated the existing understanding. The Israeli side reported no injuries and urged Lebanese forces to stay within the designated areas.

The incidents occur amid ongoing tension along the Lebanon‑Israel border and the broader effort to re‑establish Lebanese authority in the south contingent on Hezbollah disarmament.
