Lebanese Education Minister addresses school challenges in Bint Jbeil

A delegation from the Union of Municipalities of Bint Jbeil District met with Minister of Education and Higher Education, Rima Karami, to discuss the educational crisis caused by war, displacement, and damaged or closed schools in the region.

Minister Karami announced several measures to support the sector, including maintaining salaries for administrative staff in closed schools and working with the Civil Service Council to formalize the legal status of various teachers as contract employees. To support remote learning, the Ministry is collaborating with UNICEF to provide textbooks, tablets, and internet services.

Additionally, Karami announced that secondary school students will be exempt from registration fees, with refunds provided to those who have already paid. This exemption applies to students in occupied areas regardless of whether they use remote, in-person, or hybrid learning models. The Ministry is also exploring the use of alternative buildings and prefabricated rooms as temporary solutions to restore in-person education when conditions permit.
