Lebanese government faces potential cabinet reshuffle amid political tensions

Speculation is growing regarding a potential limited cabinet reshuffle within the Lebanese government led by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. Despite recent political pressures and economic challenges, the government recently maintained its position during a second accountability session in September, securing 68 votes. This total excluded votes from Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement.

Internal tensions have been highlighted by reports of potential shifts, including the possible resignation of Energy Minister Joe Saddi and rumors regarding the nomination of presidential advisor Jean Aziz for the Foreign Ministry. Following the accountability session, MP Gebran Bassil reportedly approached Prime Minister Salam to suggest that certain advisors were misleading the Prime Minister regarding key files.

While Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri has played a key role in coordinating these sessions, the government faces questions regarding its internal solidarity and its ability to implement its ministerial statement amidst ongoing financial and living pressures.
