Lebanese Ministry of Education modifies Hissarat school relocation plan

The Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education has revised its decision regarding the relocation of students from Hissarat Secondary School to Jbeil Secondary School. Following a meeting between Minister Rima Karami and education officials, and in response to local community demands, the Ministry will no longer transfer all secondary levels.

Under the new decision, all third-year secondary students will be transferred to Jbeil Secondary School because their numbers do not meet the legal requirement to maintain classes. However, first and second-year secondary students will remain at the Hissarat middle school building, as they meet the necessary legal student count.

The Ministry stated that this adjustment aims to reduce operational costs, which previously exceeded $8,000 per student annually when accounting for building maintenance and staff expenses. The decision also addresses administrative and legal issues at Hissarat, which is technically a branch of Jbeil Secondary School and faces licensing complications following the recent retirement of its founding principal.
