Lebanese officials accuse Israel of sparking wildfires in South Lebanon

Firefighters and civil defense officials in southern Lebanon have accused the Israeli military of deliberately causing wildfires in the region. According to Hussein Fakih, head of civil defense in the Nabatieh region, between 30% and 40% of the land near the frontline has been affected by fires.

Reports indicate that the blazes are being sparked by the use of illumination flares, small drones dropping incendiary materials, and white phosphorus shells hitting dry vegetation. Specific areas affected include olive groves, agricultural lands, and forested regions near Khiam, Kfarchouba, Jezzine, and the western Bekaa Valley.

During firefighting efforts, responders reported that drones have struck near personnel, forcing teams to withdraw. Environmental groups have expressed concern over the long-term ecological consequences of these incidents. The Israeli military has not responded to requests for comment regarding these specific allegations.
