Lebanese Prime Minister Selam calls for complete Israeli pullout from Lebanon

Lebanese Prime Minister Nevvaf Selam reiterated his demand that Israel withdraw entirely from Lebanese territory, rejecting any continued Israeli presence at even two points along the border. He also called for the release of prisoners and a resolution of the disputed border issues. Selam emphasized that state authority must be re‑established across all of Lebanon in line with the 1989 Taif Agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and stressed that only the Lebanese state should control weapons. The prime minister noted Lebanon’s participation in a diplomatic mechanism aimed at making the cease‑fire permanent, and said the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) will continue to be needed for observation, reporting and coordination. He referenced ongoing negotiations in Washington, which he said differ from the Swiss‑led initiative, and mentioned meetings with the Lebanese Press Syndicate and a British parliamentary delegation.
