Lebanon death toll exceeds 4,000 as Israel‑Hezbollah fighting intensifies

Since the Israeli offensive began on 2 March, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reports more than 4,000 deaths and over 12,000 injuries from Israeli air and drone strikes. A recent surge added 83 fatalities and 141 wounded in a single day, bringing the cumulative tally to 4,057 dead and 12,121 injured, according to the ministry. A cease‑fire agreed on 19 June has been repeatedly violated, with Hezbollah accusing Israel of over 180 breaches and Israel claiming Hezbollah fired more than 50 projectiles at its forces.

Iran responded to the continued Israeli attacks by announcing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing violations of the U.S.–Iran cease‑fire memorandum. Meanwhile, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed that a new round of U.S.–Iran negotiations will commence in Switzerland, aiming to address Iran’s nuclear programme and the Lebanon cease‑fire.

The conflict has drawn regional and international attention, with both sides blaming each other for the ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis.
