Lebanon emphasizes state-to-state relations with Iran

The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants has responded to statements made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, emphasizing that diplomatic relations between the two nations must be conducted through official constitutional and legal institutions. The Ministry stressed that respect for national sovereignty is a “mutual principle that does not allow for selective application or violations.”

In its statement, the Lebanese government welcomed Araghchi’s expressed intention to strengthen ties with the government in Beirut. The Ministry noted that Lebanon seeks the best possible relations with all countries, including Iran, and aims to approach all issues with a “rational, open mind and a constructive attitude.”

The response follows a meeting in Tehran between Araghchi and Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, deputy head of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council of Lebanon. During that meeting, the Iranian Foreign Minister reiterated Tehran’s support for the Lebanese people and its commitment to the country’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
